Nepal is a land-locked country in the Himalayas and surrounded by India in the south and China in the North. Nepal is a country of cultural diversity, ancient civilization and is very picturesque. However, Nepal is also a country of extreme poverty and it is defined as Less Developed Country by the United Nations with 40% of its population living below the poverty line and with their day to day life solely centered on survival. The last dedicatee's long armed conflict and political instability has added to the difficulties faced by communities and families. Additionally, the armed conflict has exacerbated the health situation and infrastructure and has further impeded the access of health care for the most vulnerable, especially chlidren. UNICEF estimates that 48% of children in Nepal suffer from moderate to serve malnutrition.

Children under 3 years old are very vulnerable in Nepal and have a high mortality rate with poverty exposing children to diarrhoea, malaria, tuberculosis, encephalitis and acute respiratory infections. It is imperative that children are provided with at least a basic form of health care that involves immunizations and post-natal and yearly check-ups. The incidence of anaemia among women of reproductive age was found to be around 52%, which originates from poverty and malnutrition. It causes a high maternal mortality rate that consequently contributes to the large number of orphans in poor countries, including Nepal, while there are a considerable amount of organisations and programs aiming to improve the situation. Our priorities are providing nutrition, immunizations, advice on family planning as well as antenatal and post natal care. There are very few organizatiosn or programs that attempt to address this massive problem of the abandoned, orphaned or street children.
